NEW RICOH THETA SC AIMS TO BRING SPHERICAL IMAGING TO THE MASSES, By Greg Scoblete

There have been a number of 360-degree/VR cameras announced lately, but many have been pricey contraptions geared for more serious immersive filmmakers. Ricoh’s newest Theta–the Theta SC–is a more budget-minded take on its top-of-the-line Theta S.

The $300 Theta SC sports a 14-megapixel image sensor and can take fully spherical stills and full HD/30p video for up to 5 minutes at a clip. It uses a pair of f/2 lenses and is lighter in weight than the Theta S. Like the S, the SC can be used handheld, mounted to a tripod, placed on a flat surface or be operated remotely using a smartphone.
